The main results fall into two parts. The first part is concerned with the persistence and smoothness of locally invariant manifolds. The central technique for proving these results is Hadamard's graph transform method generalized to an infinite-dimensional setting. Despite these limitations, there is a weak positive correlation between colon cancer and dietary fat intake, but with substantial differences for various ethnic groups. In the case of breast cancer, there is substantial variation among countries and eth nic groups, but the overall evidence indicated an association with fat in the diet. Epidemiologic studies of dietary fat and prostate cancer are more consistent and most show a positive relationship.
