About the book >.>.> This volume, titled The Italian Drawings of the XV and XVI Centuries in the Collection of His Majesty the King at Windsor Castle, serves as a comprehensive catalogue of Italian drawings housed at Windsor Castle. Although it was intended to be the first in a series dedicated to these artworks, delays in research have postponed its release. A notable contributor to this catalogue is Dr. Johannes Wilde, who authored a crucial section that focuses on the drawings of Michelangelo and his school, including notable artists such as Sebastiano del Piombo and Daniele da Volterra, as well as drawings by Florentine sculptors Baccio Bandinelli and Raffaello da Montelupo. While Dr. Wilde?s influence is acknowledged, A. E. Popham assumes overall responsibility for the catalogue. In the preface, Popham expresses his gratitude to individuals who assisted in the completion of this work. He particularly credits Sir Owen Morshead, His Majesty?s Librarian, for his support and initiative that allowed the drawings to be evacuated to the National Library of Wales during the war. This relocation provided a unique opportunity for study alongside additional collections from the British Museum. Popham also appreciates the continued support from Miss Scott-Elliot, Professor Anthony Blunt, and Mr. K. T. Parker, along with invaluable insights from scholars Dr. Friedrich Antal and Mr. Philip Pouncey. Their contributions, especially in understanding mannerist Italian art and its associated drawings, shaped and enhanced the catalogue.Closing with acknowledgements to his family and the academic community, Popham underscores the collaborative effort that facilitated the project, ensuring its scholarly rigor and comprehensiveness.
