Two very scarce pamphlets on taxation, discussing the repealed Duties on Income (No. 2) Act of 1799.These two works provide an interesting look at the first implementation of income tax, put in place by William Pitt the Younger in his December 1798 budget. Pitt introduced this new formation of tax in order to pay for the weapons and equipment in preparation for the Napoleonic Wars.The second pamphlet here examines the act, in the light of various hypothetical examples.The pamphlets are titled;'An Act (Passed 21st March 1799) For Extending the Time for Returning Statements Under an Act, Passed in the Present Session of Parliament, Intituled an Act to Repeal the Duties Imposed by an Act, Made in the Last Session of Parliament, For Granting an Aid and Contribution for the Prosecution of the War; and to Make More Effectual Provision for the Like Purpose, By Granting Certain Duties Upon Income, in Lieu of the Said Duties; and to Amend the Said Act'.'Observations, &c. Upon the Amended Act For Taxing Income; With a Variety of Examples, Calculated to Shew the Mode of Estimating the Different Descriptions of Income, and Making the Deductions According to the Cases in the Schedule'.
