Il est banquier puis il dirige une usine de fabrication de produits chimiques et d'engrais, rachetée en 1918 par la société Kuhlmann. Il occupe une place de premier plan au sein de la communauté réformée de Nantes. De 1884 à 1893 il est membre de la commission permanente du Synode National. En 1895 il devient l'exécuteur testamentaire de Thomas Dobrée. Il encourage plusieurs ?uvres au sein de son Église : l'Asile Thomas Dobrée pour les orphelins à la Papotière etc.) . Thomas Dobrée (1810-1895), né le 31 août 1810 à Nantes et mort le 3 octobre 1895 dans la même ville, est un collectionneur à l'origine du musée départemental Thomas-Dobrée.
