Very clean and crisp throughout; virtually unread. In a striking, pictorial dust jacket with the price of $3.95 at the top of the inside front flap. Two small triangular chips: One at th…e top of the front panel and one at the bottom of the rear panel. Light wear and rubbing to the spine ends. Small scuff mark in the left side of the front panel not affecting any lettering. Peter Glick has inscribed this copy: "8/1/65 To Irv & Shirley: When Irv appears on the scene in Margate with his rowing trunks, rowing gloves, tennis paddles, Shirley, and tales of tennis glories, the summer has officially begun. I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoy hearing Irvs stories. Pete Glick (underscored)." Note: As a New Jersey resident, Dr. Glick served as captain of the Margate City Beach Patrol. Timely, thoughtful, disturbing, this novel is about the aftermath of war, the period that comes when the smoke of battle clears, and the victors, in this case U.S. Marines, are assigned to civil-affairs duty before returning home. But they are to learn, in the Chinese city of Tsingtao, that the enemy--with a new face-- is still there. Outside Tsingtao Communist troops are waiting to take over. Within the city, The Marines have a three-fold task: to return to the Allies property confiscated by the Japanese; to repatriate the conquered Japanese; and to prevent war with the Communists camped outside the city and constantly infiltrating it.
