[++] Provenance: Library of Congress ("Pamphlet Collection"), via the Office of Strategic Services (OSS). Good condition. [++] A while ago--well, more than just a "while"--I bought a large non-collection of pamphlets from the Library of Congress. In this mass of material, all housed in 2000 blue document boxes that somehow managed to be undifferentially differentiated, there was a clutch of about 150 items that had been in the OSS library. That's the Office of Strategic Services, which was organized and founded by William Donovan and Franklin Roosevelt and solidified in 1942 and which became dissolved and reformulated as the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in 1945 (the OSS name lasting for three years and three months). So. Many of the pamphlets were analyzed and coordinated for mobility of use, extracting information in abstracts that might enable the pamphlet's data to reach the appropriate readers/researcher. Many of the OSS documents were gathered together, some identified individually, some not. The material offered here was definitely part of the OSS sub-collection, though they are not specifically identified as such.[++] "The latest episodes of the war have shown the extent that a new means of combat consisting in dropping to the back of the lines, armed paratroopers whose mission is to sabotage. Lines of communication or to act on the morale of the population by causing panic and disorder. These paratroopers can operate individually or in groups, possibly in concert with agents foreigners residing in the country. They may also have the task of seize important points (landing places, radio stations, parades, ete.), or to practice guerrilla warfare against the rear of the troops. In the event that Switzerland is at war, the army command made the necessary arrangements to fight the paratroopers aw means of certain troops, local defense guards and corps of police. Motorized troops are specially assigned to this task. But it is everyone's duty to help the armed force to suppress the action saboteurs and parachutists."--from the text of #5.
