Orig. yellow cloth spine and glazed boards with color illustration of four Greenaway ladies representing the seasons. Tiny owner's initials on front pastedown, boards slightly rubbed, otherwise a near fine copy. Pictorially this is a reprinting of one of Greenaway's charming almanacs from the 1880's with appropriate information for the year 1925.

FIRST EDITION 1925, small oblong format, 78 x 104 mm, 3 x 4ĵ inches, cloth backed glazed colour illustrated cream boards, all edges yellow, blue endpapers, (24) pages. Coloured frontispiece and title illustration, 12 half page coloured illustrations for the months and 4 small coloured illustrations for the seasons. Covers lightly browned in the margins, corners slightly worn, a few tiny marks to spine, no inscriptions, contents clean and bright. A good plus copy. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. This 1925 copy has been rebound in red cloth boards without the original paper covers. The spine has faded slightly and the rebinding has added mottled red to the paper edges which, in my view, add, rather than detract, from the overall appearance. The 'five Cricketers of the Year photo plate is present. A very good clean and tight copy.

Two 1920s Almanacks illustrated by influential English artist and writer of the period, Kate Greenaway, best known for her children's book illustrations.In the publisher's quarter cloth bindings. With the original glassine to '1924', with the following note: "The Coloured Illustrations are the actual first printing of the 1883 Almanack. The Text for the Year 1924 is now inserted".Originally published from 1883-1885, these are examples of later almanacks produced past Greenaway's lifetime, with her classic colour illustrations in-text throughout.With a calendar, moon cycles and poetical extracts from Shakespeare, Fletcher, Herrick and others. In the publisher's quarter cloth bindings. With the original glassine to '1924'. Externally, sound, with rubbing to the extremities and marks to the boards. Warping to '1924' boards. Front hinge failed to '1925'. Glassine is smart, with a few small chips to the edges. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with the odd spot to '1924' and occasional light spotting to '1925'. Good. book.
