The Ariel Poems were a series of chapbooks containing a single poem accompanied by a illustration by different poets and artists. There were two series, on from 1927 to 1931 with thirty-eight titles, and a second in 1954. This volume is number four of the first series. Walter de la Mare was an English writer of poetry, short fiction, and novels. He was best known for his works for children, as well as his works of short, supernatural fiction. Alone includes an engraving by Blair Hughes-Stanton (1902-1981), who was a significant figure in the revival of wood engraving in England in the twentieth century. Copy 119 of 350, bound in cream paper-covered boards, title and wood engraving to the upper board, glassine wrapper. Number 4 of the 'Ariel Poems' series, printed on Zander's handmade paper by The Curwen Press and featuring their pochoir (stencil) process to add colour to the engraving.
