Er wurde in Überlingen geboren und zog 1817 von Lindau am Bodensee nach Zürich, wo er 1820 eine eigene Steindruckerei gründete. 1830 gründete er in Schaffhausen eine lithographische Anstalt mit angegliederter Buch- und Kunsthandlung. Er wurde vor allem bekannt für seine Lithographien in den zoologischen Werken von Heinrich Rudolf Schinz. Brodtmanns Arbeiten zeichnen sich durch wissenschaftliche Genauigkeit und einem hohen ästhetischen Anspruch aus. Brodtmann starb 1862 in Basel. // // Carl Joseph Brodtmann was a Swiss draftsman, graphic artist, lithographer, publicist and bookseller. He was born in Überlingen and moved from Lindau to Zurich in 1817, where he founded his own lithographic workshop in 1820. In 1830 he founded a lithographic institute in Schaffhausen with an attached book and art shop. He is best known for his lithographs in the zoological works of Heinrich Rudolf Schinz. Die vorliegende Tafel erschien als No. 19. des 2. Bandes des Werkes. Da das Gesamtwerk inkl. der Illustrationen sowohl in Erscheinungsreihenfolge als auch nach Sachgebieten angeordnet werden konnte, trägt die Tafel zugleich die Nummer XXIX der Rubrik: Vierfüßige Thiere. - Wir haben einige hundert Tafeln des Werkes vorrätig, sie sind sämtliche generell in sehr gutem Zustand. Dennoch können hin und wieder etwas Textabklatsch oder Bräunungen vorkommen - wo dies der Fall ist, sollte es in der Regel auf den Abbildungen, die wir zu allen Tafeln bereitstellen, erkennbar sein. Die oft sehr aufschlußreichen Tafelbeschreibungen (jeweils auf Deutsch und Französisch) werden im gedruckten Orginal mitgeliefert.
