Add to basketThis is a book associated with Antony Gormley's habitable sculpture, which also functions as a hotel suite of the Beaumont (hotel), Brown Hart Gardens, in west London. It is ex-libris of the hotel (see image of paste down signed by the sculptor). Describing this book is something of a challenge and in this sense it perhaps parallels the slightly opaque and elusive nature of the sculpture. So the contents (not listed) include a myriad of mainly b/w or chromatic images of the ROOM, its design papers, the urban sprawl surrounding the hotel, the artists at work, caves, seascapes etc etc. There is also an essay by Margaret Iverson, entitled: Sculpting Darkness. It is an elegantly curated publication with the suitably debossed and discreet book title at the head of the front board (main image), all edges gilt, black coloured endpapers/pastedowns. Condition (external): in a very sound state - slight discolouration/smudging of the upper board in places, plus a little fading of the cloth on the lower one - see relevant images. Internally, the book is again very sound. Possibly hints of tanning though this may reflect more the type of paper employed rather than any ageing processes. pp. 93 (Margaret Iverson's essay) - the many illustrations are generally not paginated. This book is number 0081 of 1,600 copies. Octavo. More information and photos on request. Please note that, depending on destination, we may request a payment to cover any extra shipping & postage charges. Proceeds Condition Amnesty International. Abe2610.

An as new, signed first edition copy of this work on the exhibition held at Musee Rodin in Paris; 'Antony Gormley; Critical Mass' Antony Gormley (b. 1950) is a British sculptor known for exploring the relationship between the human body and space. Trained at Cambridge and the Slade School of Fine Art, he often uses casts of his own body to create works that examine presence, movement, and our connection to the environment. Notable pieces include Angel of the North, Another Place, and Event Horizon. Gormley's exhibition Critical Mass was held at the Musee Rodin from October 2023 to March 2024. It featured Critical Mass II, a group of sixty life-sized iron figures in various poses, arranged to evoke both harmony and disquiet. The works were placed throughout the museum and gardens, engaging in visual dialogue with Rodin s sculptures. Gormley's minimalist, hollow forms offered a stark contrast to Rodin's textured realism, prompting reflection on the body as both a physical object and a site of meaning. Antony Gormley; Critical Mass, Musee Rodin. Foreword by Amelie Simier. Additional text by Dieter Roelstraete, Thalia Allington-Wood, Sophie Biass-Fabiani, and Jean-Hubert Martin. Published by Musee Rodin, Paris. 2023 first edition. English language edition. Signed by Antony Gormley to the title page. Distributed by Yale University Press, London, and New Haven, CT. Hardcover. Condition: Sehr gut. Limitierte Ausgabe. Z : 160 pp., 87 ills., clothbound - signed by Marina Abramovic, Esporito Santo, Antony Gormley, James Caebere, Marco and Dago (Los Carpinteros), Peter Liversidge, Anthony McCall, Joseph Kosuth, Callum Innes and Laurent Grasso - An unusual book project about an architectural gem for art and books in a spectacular natural setting Limited edition of 600, of which only 300 will be commercially available Cloudline is a unique building designed by architect Toshiko Mori in collaboration with gallerists Sean and Mary Kelly and situated on the slopes of the Hudson River in Upstate New York. One is immediately greeted by art as soon as one enters the structure: Joseph Beuys, Jannis Kounellis, Juan Munoz, and Ian Hamilton Finlay escort you inside the space, which, with its aluminum-framed panoramic windows facing the Hudson Valley and its plain concrete floors, serves as a minimalist canvas for the art within. Cloudline s collection includes works of art by a considerable number of artists, some of which were created specifically for this site. Nearly a dozen of these same artists created new works especially for this book. These works of art will be reproduced as facsimiles, inserted into a numbered, limited edition version of the present publication, and accompanied by an essay by the novelist Colm Tóibín in which he describes the magic of Cloudline.
