Contemporary full brown morocco, raised back with gilt decoration, top edge gilt, seven gilt and blind fillets on both covers, marbled endpapers. Signed binding (Sauer) signed…at lower end of spine. Beautiful book.

Buschmann, tall in-8°, 27,5 x 17,5 cm, 79 pp, copy printed on high quality Dutch paper, uncut, sewn, with the original printed wrapper (wrapper with slightly discoloured margins), with a list of the lenders, bilingual French, Dutch.(Freitag 2601). The copy is kept in a purposely made full leather portf…olio, with as supra libro the coat of arms of the city of Antwerp. The paste downs are in white watery silk, the binding is signed ''J. Mössly ''. Finely preserved allthough top and end of spine show some slight wear. This copy, kept in a fine leather portfolio, was destined to be given to Tsar Nicolas II. His name is printed on the first fly leaf '' Exemplaire très respectueusement offert à Sa Majesté Nicolas II Empereur de Russie''. This unique copy was never handed to the Tsar, most probably because he did a some time, cancel the visit to the exhibition. The bi-lingual (French - Dutch) catalogue is finely printed by the Antwerp master printer Buschmann and contains at the end a list of the lenders to the exhibition. Among the lenders; Queen Victoria, The Duke of Devonshire, Lord Spencer of Althorp , Sir Charles Robinson, .

Add to basket1 lettre autographe signée 3 In-8 24 juillet 1885 Avec son enveloppe timbrée. bon Jolie lettre de Franz Liszt, âgé, écrite après son séjour lors de l'exposition Universelle d'Anvers de 1885. Il en était l'invité d'honneur, et supervisa une série de concerts (certains dirigés par le chef d'orchestre Franz Servais) donnés dans le…cadre du Congrès Musical International d'Anvers (intégré à l'Exposition Universelle). Il reçut un accueil triomphal. On le présenta à la reine des Belges ; le 8 juin, en l'église Saint-Joseph, il assista à l'exécution de sa Messe pour voix et orgue sous la direction de Peter Benoit. Victor Lynen et son épouse Marie, donnèrent pour l'occasion de grandes réceptions mondaines. "Bienveillant ami, même à distance, vous me continuez votre excellente hospitalité d'Anvers. Pardonnez-moi de vous remercier si tard de votre envoi du Luminaire, des friandises (qu'en allemand on nomme "Delicatessen") et surtout de la grande photographie, bien réussie d'après la tableau vivant, émerveillant, de la fête chez vous. Cette photographie est admirée par mes amis et connaissances - à commencer par le Grand Duc. Si vous n'y trouvez pas d'indiscrétion, je vous prierai de m'envoyer le catalogue complet de l'exposition d'Anvers - celle des beaux-arts incluse. Veuillez bien transmettre à madame Lynen les très affectueux et reconnaissants respects de votre dévoué F. Liszt". Il ajoute en postscriptum : "Demain j'expédierai à Peter Benoit les imprimés de musique que je lui ai promis" [Peter Benoit (1834-1901), compositeur belge]. Compositeur et pianiste romantique.
