A handsome set of this beautifully presented Nonesuch Press edition of the The Holy Bible; The Authorized or King James Version of 1611 now repinted with the Apocrypha. In three volumes with reproductions of 105 of the Sixteenth-century woodcuts of Bernard Salomon; Volume I: The Old Testament; Genesis to Kings;  Volume II: The Old Testament; Chronicles to Malachi; and;  Volume III: The New testament, followed by The Apocrypha of the Old Testament. Published by The Nonesuch Press, London and Random House Inc, New York. 1963 first edition thus, first impression. Printed in Great Britain. A near fine set of 3 olive green linen hardbacks, with gilt decoration to boards and silvered decoration and titles to spine. Slight fraying to tail of Vol. I. All soundly bound, with text bright and clean throughout. No spotting or staining. A few small marks to edge of text block. Attractive woodcuts. A very smart indeed publication from the Nonesuch Press. Text in English. Paperback. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: No dj. First Edition. A set of parts in original blue paper covers, and missing only the final part 17. Included though, is the index part, which came last. All pages and plates in excellent clean condition, still mostly uncut, and each part has bound in several high quality engraved plates, some on tinted paper. The spine strips are a bit frayed, mostly present, the rough cut edges have become dusty and darkened, not too bad. The paper covers are darkened and dusty, with the odd worm track. The parts have been kept together life-long in a neat bundle so have protected eachother quite well. There is some waviness to the pages, expected with this type of paper, which is quite textured and has a durable feel. Odour is a little smokey, not the tobacco kind, no mould, just dust and attics and oldness. Rare in this almost complete original form, and issued in monthly parts on subscription between 1814 and 1818, a publisher's delay extending the end date. "The Holy Bible, including the Old and New Testaments and the Apocrypha, according to the Authorized Version; with notes explanatory and practical. . The marginal references are added together with appropriate introductions, tables, and indexes; also with maps drawn for this work by Arrowsmith; and with plans and copper-plate engravings by the best artists.
