The Apocrypha, bound in full black vellum over boards, edges a little rubb…ed, spine with gilt title. Internally, limitation leaf, half title, title, [9], 406 pp, [1] printers marque, 19 B&W full page illustrations, t.e.g., remainder uncut. There were also 450 ordinary copies on mould-made paper). Accompanied by a black portfolio, containing 14 additional full page illustrations, all pencil signed & mounted within cream paper leaves. Book & Portfolio each with a book label to fpd (Stoughton R. Vogel, M.D.), all housed together in the original large black cloth double slipcase, a trifle worn. Book 337*219mm; Prints 337*223mm; Slipcase 362*246 mm), wood engravings, respectively by Blair Hughes-Stanton, Gertrude Hermes, Leon Underwood, Stephen Gooden, Rene Ben Sussan, M. E. Groom, Eric Jones, Wladislaw Skocaylas, Hester Sainsbury, Frank Medworth, Eric Kennington, Eric Ravilious, John Nash & D. Galanis. A remarkable suite of illustrations, including many of the foremost illustrators of the period, printed at the Curwen Press. The Cresset Press was an imprint founded by Dennis Cohen who published several finely printed and illustrated books over four years between 1927 and 1931. Together with an additional suite of the engravings, all but three of which are signed by the illustrators. This handsome, imposing work was printed by the Curwen Press, and exhibits their usual high standard of printing. Minute rubs to corner tips and edges, mostly from removal and insertion into the slipcase, else fine in black vellum lettered in gilt on spine. T.e.g. Suite contained within a cloth portfolio. The pair housed in original two-part cloth-covered slipcase, which lacks a section of a fold-out panel. One of thirty copies specially bound and with an extra suite of signed engravings.
