CAMILLE PISSARRO (1830-1903). Camille Pissarro was a Danish-French painter, known as the dean of Impressionist painters. He contributed greatly to the Impressionism and Post-Impressionism art movements. His most famous works include The Boulevard Montmartre at Night, The Boulevard Montmartre on a Winter Morning, and Jalais Hill, Pontoise.ALS. 12g. October 25, 1899. Paris, France. An autograph letter signed C. Pissarro in French to Lecomte discussing the health of his son. The English translation reads, My dear Lecomte It has been an infinite amount of time since I had news from you; what have you been doing since we returned from the countryside? We have had little but annoyances; our Georges was sorely tried by his unfortunate illness: appendicitis. After much hesitation, a decision had to be made to operate on him. He has been at the Hahnemann sanatorium for fifteen days now, finally on the road to recovery. It was just in time, it seems, as the illness was in its last period. We hope to see him fully recovered soon. And you? What news? Madame Pissarro went with Jeanne to visit you without having the pleasure of meeting you. Write to us soon. No, I dare not ask you for a visit, which, however, would give me pleasure, believe me. Receive, my dear Lecomte, the assurance of our friendship, and our best wishes for you and your family. Your very devoted, C. Pissarro. This letter is to Georges Lecomte, best known for his extensive literary works, studies on art and history. He was the head of the art school, cole Estienne from 1913 to 1934 and was elected to Acadmie franaise in 1924, later serving as its perpetual secretary in 1946 until his death. This letter discusses Pissarros son, Georges Henri Manzana Pissarro, who is also an Impressionist painter. He received appendicitis surgery and was on the road to recovery. His daughter, Jeanne Bonin-Pissarro, was also mentioned, having recently visited Lecomte with Pissarros wife. This letter was sent from 204 rue de Rivoli, the location where Pissarro stayed to paint his famous series of the Tuileries Gardens during the period this letter was written. This letter is in very fine condition.
