In so doing, I will argue that previous studies of Appius career have sought in the wrong places for an explanation of the political rivalry between him and his opponents and I will offer an interpretation of his censorial acts - and of one of them in particular - which, I believe, may account for this rivalry. Originale Künstlergrafik, von Arthur Blaschnik. Unikat. 29,1 x 46,0 cm (Darstellung / Blatt).Der gezeigte Brunnen lag direkt an der Via Appia zwischen Ariccia und Albano Laziale (unmittelbar vor den Toren) und wurde von vielen kunstfertigen Italienreisenden gezeichnet oder gemalt. Deckweiß an wenigen Stellen schwarz angelaufen. Einige Fleckchen wohl durch Eiseneinschluss. Verso vier Risse hinterlegt. Insgesamt nur mäßiger Zustand.Arthur Blaschnik (1821 Strehlen / Schlesien - 1918 Berlin). Deutscher Landschaftsmaler in Rom. 1843/44 Studium der Malerei an der Wiener Akademie, 1844-49 an der Königlichen Akademie der Bildenden Künste in München. 1849-52 in Gräfenberg tätig. Angeregt durch den Münchner Hofmalers Carl Rottmann 1852/53 Italienreise über Südtirol, Venedig und Florenz nach Rom. Ab Oktober 1853 in Rom ansässig, wo er sich mit der Darstellung römischer Ruinen und der Umgebung einen Namen machte. Lieferte Landschaftszeichnungen für das Reisealbum der Kaiserin Charlotte von Russland und für die Gemahlin des Königs Friedrich Wilhelm IV. von Preußen. 1856 Mitglied im Deutschen Künstlerverein in Rom, Vorstandsmitglied. 1858 Reise nach Neapel und Capri. Nebenbei als Illustrator für Zeitschriften wie die Illustrierte Zeitung (Leipzig), Die Gartenlaube oder Über Land und Meer tätig. 1874 Heirat mit der Schriftstellerin Fanny Arndt. 1880 Rückkehr nach Berlin.
