Covers are clean, lightly toned and worn along edges, wrapped in protective mylar. Binding is loosened but still sturdy and secure. Pages are clean with light uniform toning. Printed in B&W with illustrations throughout. 384 pages. Title page dated 1912. No date on copyright page. Previous owner's name written on front free endpaper. Signed by author in blue ink on title page, just below his printed name. A very nice copy. This volume comes from the Castles and Forts collection of Chris Sterling, a longtime professor at George Washington University. Sterling was an avid book collector with a wide-range of interests; we are proud to house this collection, part of the extensive library which is his legacy. The first publication on architecture by the very distinguished Cambridge architectural historian Robert Willis, pioneering in its careful analysis of the component features of Italian Gothic architecture, and showing a particular interest in vaulting on which Willis was to become the recognised authority.
