Hardcover. Condition: Good. A fantastic look into 19th century arithmetic lessons as to the way the author sees it should be taught. Pocket size hard cover book titled Gradual Lessons in Oral and Written Arithmetic, Part I by David B. Tower, A.M. published by Tappen, Whittemore Mason, Boston 1850. Tower wrote many school lesson books on the subjects being taught at the time. First cover page is signed by a previous owner of the book from the 19th Century and a lithographed letterhead-advertisement from the W.E. Hoyt Co. Clothiers, Hatters, Furnishers in Salem Massachusetts. According to the hand writing on this letterhead paper, the signature in the book Mary Alice Debaker, was married to Joseph M. Hoyt, who is listed as president of the company in the top left corner. Book is in fair-good condition, complete, tight. 178 pages, 6 1/4" x 4 1/4". Covers have corner wear, cover pages and title page have brown toning, corner folds from the start of the "Preface" page to the End of the book. Pages are good, very readable. Great little math book loaded with basic arithmetic from cover to cover. The Hoyt letterhead is included.
