No Binding. Condition: Fine. Piece of dress fabric, circa 1852, owned by Kit Carson's third wife Josefa Jaramillo (1828-1868), who hailed from a well-respected Spanish Catholic family in the Southwest. The fabric, with pink background and red, white, and darker pink flowers, measures approximately 2 x 8 inches; with a letter of…authenticity from Lillian S. Wood, wife of Charles T. Wood, grandson of Kit and Josefa Carson, who had been bequeathed the fabric. According to Wood, Carson had material for a dress to Josefa upon delivery of each of their children at birth (between 1852 and 1868). Another piece of the same dress is preserved at the Kit Carson Home and Museum, Taos, New Mexico. A most unusual Carson-related artifact with a distinguished provenance.
