Cloth shows scattered splash and ring stains to front board, small mark to rear, and general rubbing; spine sunned with light wear at ends; corners lightly bumped. A slight lean to the spine. Old price in pencil to front pastedown; previous owner name in pencil at head of title page. Text block edges toned with a little dust soil; occasional faint foxing to prelims; mild waviness to some page edges. Binding sound and pages clean and unmarked. ---. Posthumous collection of Lawrence's journalism with a brief prefatory note dated February 1930. Many pieces first appeared in newspapers including the Evening News and the Sunday Dispatch; others in periodicals such as Everyman and TP's Weekly. Contents include essays such as 'The Jeune Fille Wants to Know,' 'Give Her a Pattern,' 'Do Women Change?,' 'Red Trousers,' 'The State of Funk,' 'The Risen Lord,' 'Men Must Work and Women as Well,' 'Making Pictures,' 'Pictures on the Walls,' 'On Being a Man,' and 'On Human Destiny.' Roberts bibliography lists the UK edition as A53. Second printing issued the month after the first (Book was first published April 1930; this reprint is from May 1930).

A very good, clean, tight copy in original publisher's maroon cloth boards with gilt embossed facsimile signature to the front board and gilt embossed title to the spine. No inscriptions. 3 tiny splits to the rear inner hinge - probably insect damage - the largest being no more than 3mm in length - the rear board obviously still remains very firmly attached. Some light foxing to the front endpapers including the title page. The head and tail of the spine and the upper two board corners a little bumped - the cloth boards almost entirely free from soiling for fading. A very good, clean, tight copy of this first edition.

Original Cloth. Condition: Good. First Edition. The boards have some light surface marking and some fading to the spine with two stains to the bottom half. The page edges are browned with two small dark stains to the fore edges. Browning to the endpapers and to the half-title page and the final page of the text. Light spotting to the title page and the facing page and the pages are browned but generally otherwise clean and unmarked. First printing. No jacket.
