Galaxy Science Fiction was an American digest-size science fiction magazine, published in Boston from 1950 to 1980. It was founded by a French-Italian company, World Editions, which was looking to break into the American market. World Editions hired as editor H. L. Gold, who rapidly made Galaxy the leading science fiction magazine of its time, focusing on stories about social issues rather than technology. Several British editions of Galaxy were produced. From 1953 to 1962 Strato Publications published 94 numbered issues. Includes writing by: Clifford D. Simak, Theodore Sturgeon, Damon Knight, Frederik Pohl, Charles V. deVet, L. Also includes cover art by: Milford "Mel" Joseph Hunter, a science fiction illustrator, producing illustrations for famous science fiction authors such as Isaac Asimov and Robert A. Heinlein, as well as a technical and scientific illustrator for clients such as The Pentagon, Hayden Planetarium, and the Massachusetts Audubon Society. Jack Banham Coggins, an artist, author, and illustrator, known for his oil paintings, which focused predominantly on marine subjects. He is also known for his books on space travel, which were both authored and illustrated by Coggins. Wallace Allan Wood, an American comic book writer, artist and independent publisher, widely known for his work on EC Comics's titles such as Weird Science, Weird Fantasy, and MAD Magazine from its inception in 1952 until 1964, as well as for T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents, and work for Warren Publishing's Creepy. John Brian Francis "Jack" Gaughan who was an American science fiction artist and illustrator and multiple winner of the Hugo Award in the category of Best Professional Artist. Gregory Dale Bear, an American writer and illustrator best known for science fiction. His work covered themes of galactic conflict, parallel universes, consciousness and cultural practices, and accelerated evolution. Fifteen issues in Good - Excellent condition.
