Condition: Good. - 17 words penned in blue ink on a 5-3/4 inch high by 4-1/2 inch wide piece of cream-colored paper. Signed "Cordially / Hal Borland". The name of the book fair has been erased, leaving a gap & some rubbing in the 2nd line of the sentiment. There is some very light staining to the left edge and top & bottom right corners of the paper. Good. Borland provides his autograph for a Jon Adams "On the occasion of the First ------- Book Fair, close by the Eno Law Office".Harold "Hal" Glen Borland [1900-1978] was a well-known American writer, journalist and naturalist, the author of many nonfiction and fiction books about the outdoors. After graduating from Columbia University, Borland worked for various newspapers across the United States, eventually settling in Philadelphia and writing for the Philadelphia Morning Sun and the Morning Ledger from 1926 to 1937. In 1937 he began writing for the New York Times, first as a staff writer for the Sunday Magazine and then, from 1942 until his death in 1978, as an editorial writer for the Sunday Times. His series of editorials about his experiences as an outdoorsman was later compiled into two books. Borland also wrote short stories, poetry, novels [including westerns under the pseudonym Ward West], articles for various magazines and one play.

Lawson writes to Fridolf Johnson that "I am pleased to supply the year of my birth for HL's new book." Signed "Alex Lawson". Fine. Professor Alexander S. Lwason wrote numerous books on typography and printing. His works include "Printing Types: An Introduction and a Printer's Almanac", "Anatomy of a Typeface", as well as "Composing Room" for Inland Printer and "Typographically Speaking", among others. Lawson was the recipient of numerous awards recognizing his achievements. An illustrator and artist as well as a fine pressman, the recipient Fridolf Johnson was an editor of American Artist Magazine until his retirement in the 1970's. As a graphic artist, he designed title panels for Hollywood movies and art & typography for advertising as well as dust jacket illustrations. He wrote and illustrated his own children's books in addition to other works. He also compiled and edited the Knopf book "Rockwell Kent: An Anthology of His Work".
