Knopf 1928 A signed first U.S. edition of the Nobel Prize winner's first installment of The Master of Hestviken, a tetralogy set in medieval Norway, originally published in 1925 as Olav Audunssøn 1 Hestviken, translated from the Norwegian by Arthur G. Chater, jacket design by Frank McIntosh, inscribed by Undset to the front free endpaper "Mr. Herbert M. Meyer from Sigrid Undset", both the signature and jacket are rare attributes of this book. Orange cloth stamped in blue and purple, blue topstain, pp. [viii], 341, [3]; VG+ book with one bumped corners and light toning near board edges, with Norwegian St. Olav stamp pasted in potentially by Undset? below signature; in a fair jacket with the front panel nearly detached at front joint, significant chips and tears to spine ends, minor chips to head of rear panel, and fore-edge corners, toning, and light soil. Inscribed by Author(s).
