La Renaissance latine est une mine de joyaux poétiques, « Atlantide oubliée », trop oubliée parce que trop pillée par les poètes français de la Plé…iade, Ronsard en tête. En sont présentés ici deux des poètes principaux. Jean Second, flamand mort à Tournai en 1536 à vingt-quatre ans, est le seul érotique véritable de la langue latine. Virtuose du verbe et de l image, il a consacré les dix-neuf poèmes de ses Baisers, qui enchantèrent Montaigne, Spinoza, Mirabeau et Goethe, à célébrer les lèvres d une Espagnole blonde de Tolède: Nééra, son dernier grand amour. Michel Marulle, soldat de fortune mort sous les armes onze ans avant la naissance de Jean Second, appartient comme son meilleur ami Jacopo Sannazaro et son ennemi intime Ange Politien à la génération des poètes-philologues italiens de la seconde moitié du xve siècle. La plupart des vingt-quatre épigrammes amoureuses ici présentées s adressent à une grande dame, autre « Nééra », dont l incognito est percé pour la première fois. La vingt-cinquième est une invective vengeresse contre Ange Politien. Dix-sept de ces pièces n ont jamais été traduites en français. en latin et en français Classiques en poche 178 pages 11 x 18.
