Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. A Programme from an exhibition entitled "Fifty Years of Robert Frost The exhibition, held in mid-October 1943, was held to celebrate the poet's return to Dartmouth College as a Ticknor Fellow of the Humanities. Original blue paper covered boards, title lettered in black to front board, 6.75 x 10 inches, 15pp., original envelope, loosely inserted is a newspaper cutting about Professor Ray Nash. Published by Dartmouth College Library (Hanover), 1944. Inscribed by Robert Frost to his cousin Joseph Frost on the front cover, "RF to JF Collector. Rare inscribed with this noteworthy association. The corners a little bumped; a near fine example. According to the Preface: Many Frost items privately held by members of the College were brought out to supplement the Library s Robert Frost Collection - indeed the outpouring was so generous that the display cases overflowed. It is part of the purpose of this catalogue to record the presence of some things which were not actually on view. Altogether the roundup of material showed clearly what the George Ticknor Fellow in the Humanities had been doing since he left Hannover between two days in the middle of freshman year. Joseph William Pepperrell Frost (1923-2008) was a historian and writer from Maine who, throughout his life, would share a close bond with his cousin Robert. With about fifty years between them, the two first met when Joseph was a young boy during Robert and Elinor's visit to the Frost ancestral home in the late 1920s. Later, Joseph's college years would be marked with frequent visits to stay with his cousin, even accompanying Robert to some of his many speaking engagements. In adulthood, he dedicated part of his time to researching and compiling records related to Frost family genealogy, a collection of which is now housed within the Portsmouth Athenaeum of New Hampshire.
