Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Hardcover quarto, 11 3/8 inches tall, in fine condition. A sticker signed by Julia Child is affixed to the half title page. Cream colored paper covered boards with en embossed title, with gilt printing on the spine. The dust jacket is near fine with a small ink mark at the upper front cover, and a tiny bit of spine tip wear. First printing of the first edition. This is an unusual collaborative cook book, as it is based on the Master Chefs Television series which was hosted by Julia Child. As Julia Child says in the foreword that she wrote for the book; "My role once again was to be with the bakers on the set, in order to move things along if necessary, but principally to assume the function of pupil as well as a member of the audience." The book was written by Dorie Greenspan, and there were actually twenty four professional bakers who appeared on the show demonstrating the recipes, and teaching baking techniques. They are introduced in the opening pages with a four page spread with the names of and a photo of each one.The book actually has more recipes than were demonstrated on the show, but of course many baking techniques are clarified when one can actually see the process as it unfolds, so the ties to the show are strong. The book however is chock full of detail and tips for baking breads, quick breads, pasties and cakes, all illustrated by beautiful colored photographs.Numbered pages v-xvii, and 2-477.
