Hardcover. Condition: Used. This is the second book published by The Typophiles and was created as a surprise 65th birthday tribute to the dean of American book design, Bruce Rogers. The title is a play on Rogers's famous mark-a thistle-and his love for maritime themes (hence "Barnacles"). The book is an exquisite festschrift of printing as each section was printed by a different shop or designer, showcasing a dizzying array of paper stocks, typefaces, and illustrative styles with contributions by fifty-five notables including Ruzicka, Angelo, Fass, Goudy, Bennett, Dwiggins, Rushmore, Adler, Beilenson, Cary, Blumenthal, Hess, and Trenholm. Very, very good. Includes Richard Ellis's contribution which arrived too late to bind in. Also includes a bookmark printed on paper made from BR's old clothes. Signed by Goudy and Charles W. Smith, and Edward Stevens. 454.
