Hardcover. Condition: Collectible-Good. No Jacket. Text is unmarked, though the pages are yellowed and the page edges are age toned. There is a 1826 ownership inscription on both the first and last free end pages (same owner). Both the front and rear hinge feel weak. covers are worn around the edges, especially at the corners, head and base of the spine, and where the covers meet the spine. No dust jacket.

First edition. Hardback. Contemporary half calf rebacked, book-plate of the Tottenham Collection, Bath Guildhall Library. Signature of Ed Tottenham at the head of the title, "sold" stamp of Bath Municipal Libraries on the title. Lithographic frontispiece with the facsimile signatures of the two short-hand writers, T.J. Brown and Ed, Tottenham. The marbled boards are somewhat rubbed, but clean and tidy. There is chipping to the spine, and the top panel (1 inch) is detached (inside book awaiting repair). The title label to the spine has gone. Internally clean, but with some foxing spots. (ii) 484 pp.

Also reprinted in Bristol, Rhode Island and New Haven in 1808 and 1809. Haynes records only the 1809 New Haven issue. "In a period of formalism and decay in the Church, he stood forth, at first almost alone, as the apostle of vital religion.Although deeply attached to the Episcopal Church, he was treated with coolness by many of its clergy, and attended few of its conventions. At one held at Richmond, May 3, 1792, however, he preached an earnest, evangelical sermon." DAB. Evans 24431. Johnson 1247.
