Opening and closing blanks browned and torn, old ink inscriptions and paper label to front blank, early nineteenth century library stamp (Medical Society of London) and ink class mark to title page, Wellcome library withrawal stamp to reverse of title page, p109-110 (leaf H7) supplied in good facsimile, paper browned with occasional spotting. First edition of Pitt's demonstration of the worthlessness of certain expensive drugs (sarsaparilla, bezoar, powder of viper and mummy etc) and the value of some lower cost ones. "The London Pharmacopaeia or Receipt book the last Age was made of antiquated absurd and useless compositions.". The text quickly ran into two further editions. Usable and presentable example of the uncommon first edition; ESTC T34354.

A tight, bright, virtually as new example. xx + 670 pp. with systematic index, alphabetical index with over 700 full- and partial- page illustrations (the frontispiece apparently was omitted from the first printing). An exemplary example.

Epistolium-vagum-prosa-metricum: or, An epistle at randome, in prose and metre. To be delivered, to all whom it may concern; but, was first intended only, for two or three of the authors friends in authority (if he hath so many left) to mediate in Parliament, the redress of his destructive grievances; in the expression whereof, many particulars of publick concernment are interwoven. The author, is George Wither Esq; who, in writing this address, being transported beyond the sense of his personal sufferings, discovers by a poetical rapture, that whereon the peace of these nations depends; and, what is, and what vvill be, their sad condition; as also, what new-purgatories, and fiery-tryals, they are likely to pass, if God's mercy, prevents not: which that they may endeavour to obtain, their old remembrancer gives them, once more, a fore-warning; resolving, this shall be his last time, of sounding them an alarm.
