Quoting Wikipedia (using DeepL translate): "Brühl wanted to impart natural science to talented people of all classes and, if necessary, win them over for it. . . . He therefore held lectures that were free of charge and--at that time almost unheard of and often offensive--were also open to female listeners. In these lectures he refuted the widespread opinion (propagated especially by Prof. Theodor von Bischoff, Munich, in the paper 'Das Studium und die Ausübung der Medicin durch die Frauen', 1872) that the female brain is structurally (too small!) incapable (or at least unskilled!) for studying (especially medicine!). Even the most experienced anatomists would not be able to distinguish a female from a male brain. This, of course, caused 'bad blood' among traditionalists, but it also secured him the lasting affection of all women's rights activists." Brühl was also the author of Frauenhirn, Frauenseele, Frauenrecht (1883), which was a "pro-feminist article refuting the argument that the female brain is smaller than the male brain. It concludes that, since women are in this respect physically equal, they should also be considered mentally and legally equal" (quoting from the OCLC entry), and also Einiges über die Gaben der Natur an die Frau und die Consequenzen hieraus für Bedeutung, Stellung, aufgaben und Rechte der Frau in der menschlichen Gesellschaft, ein von gehirn-demonstrationen begleiteter Vortrag (1893).
