Preisendanz. - Encuadernación un poco marginada, nombre del autor subrayado en la portada,…por lo demás buena y limpia. - Del texto: El contacto de los romanos con la cultura griega, despertó en ellos el interés y el amor al libro. La forma del libro antiguo era el ro.llo. Dicho rollo consistió en una cinta de papel hecho de las membranas de los tallos del papiro, que crece en los pantanos del Nilo (Egipto), o, como sucedió más tarde, en una cinta de pergamino. Los rollos de papiro más comunes midieron doce a quince o veinte a treinta centímetros de alto y seis a siete metros de largo. Los rollos de pergamino fueron menos largos. Desde el siglo IV de nuestra era usóse en Roma también el códice, formado por hojas de papiro o pergamino.'Gran parte de los rollos que el romano rico reunió para formar con ellos en su casa una biblioteca, procedió de bibliotecas griegas. La biblioteca privada de Roma, algunas con veinte mil y más volúmenes, ostentaba un gran lujo. Comprendía ella una hermosa sala embaldosada con mármol verde a lo largo de cuyas paredes reposaron en estantes embutidos o en armarios abiertos, los rollos. Alrededor de la sala colocáronse bustos y relieves de retrato, una costumbre que originó Asinio Folión, cuando instaló en Roma la primera biblioteca pública. - Enrique (Heinrich Max) Sparn, Bibliotecario y científico, 1889 (Pforzheim) 1966 (Córdoba). Persigue el mismo fin de establecer la existencia de libros escritos a mano pertenecientes a la Iglesia Cristiana. Si se pudiera reunir a todos ellos en un solo lugar, formarían entonces una biblioteca compuesta por más de doscientos mil manuscritos, ejecutados casi todos en los siglos IV a XVII, especialmente en la Edad Media. En 1939, año del estallido de la segunda guerra mundial, contaban las iglesias cristianas con ciento sesenta y tres bibliotecas eon más de cien libros manuscritos cada una, por lo menos.
