SIGNED by the author on the title page with brief inscription to previous owners dated 2001. Minimal wear, clean text, tight binding. "This book has stirred thought provoking developments about the history of 19th Century America. It approaches history from an American Indian perspective and validates the stories about the life of Crazy Horse. A real eye opener is the reason behind America's need for gold in 1876. This reason also provides a link to the reservation economy of today.". Signed by Author(s).

Colour & b/w photographs, bibliography. One of only 20 copies in full brown leather. Fine in dust-wrapper and leather slipcase. Signed by the author. ".The British Tunny Club, Hardy Bros. tackle and big game fishing in the 1930's." Between the two World Wars, the Yorkshire coast was the centre of a sporting tunny fishery which attracted the attention of the rich and famous. The tunny followed the North Sea fishing fleet, to which anglers were taken by a variety of charter vessels. Trawlermen would point out the location of tunny in return for a crate of beer, and the angler would then be dropped off in a 14' or 15' rowing boat to do battle alone. Fish would often tow anglers for miles. The record was 798lbs and fish approaching this size were common. Hardy's responded to the new scene with specialist tackle, including rods and reels. The big-game fishery ceased at the outbreak of war in 1939, and failed to take off again afterwards owing to the disappearance of the herring shoals and so also thetunny which fed on them. "Heroic tales of epic sea battles, enormous record breaking fish, the special tackle used, and social history of the time will fascinate anglers and tackle collectors alike." (John Drewett in his Foreword). "The collaboration between Mark Ross and David Watson has produced a hugely important tribute to an element of British angling history that excites so many fishermen and collectors." The leather-bound edition also has a dust-wrapper (price states GBP 200) as well as a slip-case. .

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. (no dust jacket) [a good sound copy, moderate wear to extremities, slight fraying at lower corners]. (illustrated endpapers) INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author on the title page: "To Gertrud Boheen(sp?) / from a happy author / Lillian Bos Ross." (And below that inscription is another, when Ms. Boheen passed the novel along to another: "To Frank E. Brady / from Gertrud." Novel, set in the 1870s, that tells the story of a rugged man of action and his mail-order bride. The author's first novel, it's not only a key work of California fiction, but it also had a profound effect on the life of the writer who would come to be most identified with the Big Sur region, Henry Miller. Miller read the book a few weeks after first coming to the area, and years later he wrote: "Till then I had been only a visitor. The reading of this 'little classic' . made me more than ever determined to take root here." A movie version (retitled ZANDY'S BRIDE), starring Gene Hackman and Liv Ullmann, was released in 1973.
