Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Pat Marriott (illustrator). "Simon paid off the driver and turned to follow Mrs Twite. But she seemed to have locked the door behind her and, as he rattled the latch unavailingly and then rapped the locker, something dark and suffocating was forced down over his head and a pair of hands gripped his throat." Simon, coming to London to study painting with his old friend Dr Field, finds he has vanished without trace. Determined to discover what lies behind his disappearance, Simon is trapped in a fiendish plot. Why has his landlord got guns in his cellar and how does one deal with his irrepressible daughter, Dido . . .? The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Soft cover. Condition: Good. Aiken, Joan. Black hearts in Battersea / illustrated from drawings by Pat Marriott. Harmondsworth: Penguin Books, 1968. Puffin Books ; PS345. Paperback, Good. Spine rubbed and faded, creases to corners and mild shelfwear to edges. Shadow of tape mark. Binding strong. Ownership signatures to inside front cover and first page (crossed through). Illustrated title page. 205pp., b/w illustrations. Tanning to edges of page block. Contents clean and bright. Joan Delano Aiken MBE (4 September 1924 4 January 2004) was an English writer specialising in supernatural fiction and children's alternative history novels. In 1999 she was awarded an MBE for her services to children's literature. Black Hearts in Battersea is a children's novel first published in 1964. The second book in the Wolves Chronicles, it is loosely a sequel to her earlier Wolves of Willoughby Chase. The book is set in a slightly altered historical England during the reign of King James III in the early 19th century, and follows the adventures of Simon, an orphan whose plans to study painting in London are derailed by high adventure. The book has an involved "Dickensian plot" which she believed to complement the habit many children have of rereading or having a book reread to them. RightWayUp Books aims to provide accurate and detailed descriptions. All images are of the actual book for sale - no stock images are ever used. Thank you for looking at this listing.
