Front colophon: "This edition of Tony Hillerman: From The Blessing Way to Talking God; A Bibliography is limited to 1000 copies." Signed by the author beneath colophon in black ink: "Louis A. Lieb." Original publisher's brown cloth binding. 6 1/4" x 9 1/4." Eighty-eight pages, complete. Pages and covers are very clean and intact. A Fine copy. Anthony "Tony" Hillerman (1925-2008) was an American novelist and writer of nonfiction. He is perhaps best-known for his Navajo Tribal Police detective novels. Hillerman's writings are noted for their incorporation of details about the cultures of different Indigenous tribes including the Dine (Navajo), Hopi, and Zuni. Many of his mystery novels are set in the Four Corners region of New Mexico and Arizona, but, occasionally, parts of Colorado and Utah are featured as well. Excerpts from the author's Introduction: "Publication of this bibliography marks the 20th anniversary of the appearance of The Blessing Way, the first in a remarkable series of mystery novels by New Mexico writer Tony Hillerman. . Hillerman's readers are entertained by an intellectually involving story, but they also participate in an encounter which celebrates the cultural and human diversity of the Southwest in a consistently respectful and equitable manner. . This bibliography documents Hillerman's accomplishments. In many ways a bibliography is a bibliography and should not need an introduction. However, it will be useful to explain something of what is included (and omitted) and of the principles of description employed. The first American and English editions of his novels are fully described according to modern bibliographic principles. All foreign translations to date are listed. In addition, a bibliographic record of other works by and about him is provided in less detailed form. Excluded are reviews of individual works. The descriptions of the American and English first editions contain the following elements: Title page transcription; Description of pagination (collation) and page size; Description of contents; Description of binding; Date of publication and price; Notes regarding setting, awards, unusual features. The arrangement within each section is chronological with minor exceptions. Full descriptions of limited editions and of the first English editions are provided and appear first regardless of their place in a strict temporal sequence. . It is intended that the end product will serve the collector concerned to identify first editions, the general reader seeking a full list of Hillerman's fiction and non-fiction and the student interested in biographical and analytic essays.".
