First Editiion First Printing Stated. 381 Pages. very attractive book with glosssy stiff covers and dust jacket like flaps. No defects noted and interior text pages are flawless. Signed by the Editor on the Title page. It is no secret that the French Quarter has inspired many a writer. From French Romanticists like Chateaubriand to Whitman to Faulkner to Robert Olen Butler, for almost three hundred years authors have penned tales with ink of the blood that flows from the heart of the Crescent City. There have been local literary journals: from Les Cenelles in 1845, the first anthology of African-American poetry in the United States; to the Double Dealer of the 1920s; to the New Laurel Review currently working on its 22nd volume. But never before has the combined merit of the Vieux Carre's uniqueness, and the plethora of living writers that has dwelled in it, been consolidated into one volume. And so here it is. Contents in Seven Sections:Ramon Gin Fizz, New Orleans Mint Julep, Bourbon, Hurricane, Dripped Absinthe Francaise, Sazerac, and Obituary Cocktail. Signed by Editor.

Trade Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Levin, Eli - Cover Painting of Santa Fe Art Scene (illustrator). 307 Pages. Signed by author on title page. A used book in wonderful condition. Interior text pages are near flawless. By the early 1970s, an active bohemian colony had developed in Santa Fe and it became a cultural boom town. The number of art galleries went from two to a hundred. Besides the Santa Fe Opera, there came into being endless festivals: for art, music, literature, theater, movies, fashion, and the crafts of Indians and Spanish Americans. The city's complex heritage of three interlocked cultures became Santa Fe Style. But the fifteen years between 1964 and 1980 held a special magic. Eli Levin experienced it all: the fading generation of older artists and the newly arriving younger generation; wild night life at Claude's Bar; artist's battles with conservative arts organizations; questionable successes and tragic failure of careers; exemplary examples of lifetime dedication; and a number of suppressed scandals, one even involving possible murders. Packed with amusing anecdotes about the various artists with whom Levin painted, plotted and partied, this vivid memoir testifies to the exciting rebirth and burgeoning growth of one of this country's most well known art colonies. The author is the son of novelist Mayer Levin and is known for his paintings of Santa Fe night life. He has run art galleries, written art reviews and taught art history. Illustrated with black and white photographs on almost every page many of which are Eli Levin paintings and etchings. Contents consist of 78 stories most of which are personalities and events. Prussian Chief of General Staff Helmuth von Moltke had planned meticulously for the war. He rapidly mobilised the Prussian Army and advanced across the border into Saxony and Bohemia, where the Austrian Army was concentrating for an invasion of Silesia. There, the Prussian armies, led nominally by King William I, converged, and the two sides met at the Battle of Kà niggrätz (Hradec Královà ) on 3 July. The Prussian Elbe Army advanced on the Austrian left wing, and the First Army on the centre, prematurely; they risked being counter-flanked on their own left. Victory therefore depended on the timely arrival of the Second Army on the left wing. This was achieved through the brilliant work of its Chief of Staff, Leonhard Graf von Blumenthal. Superior Prussian organisation and à lan decided the battle against Austrian numerical superiority, and the victory was near total, with Austrian battle deaths nearly seven times the Prussian figure. An armistice between Prussia and Austria came into effect at noon on 22 July. A preliminary peace was signed on 26 July at Nikolsburg.Print size 21x29.7 cm to accommodate the oversized maps.
