[Land and Water Speed Records] ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPHS, SIGNATURES, FLICK BOOK, NEWSPAPER, AND LONG-PLAY RECORD, LEO VILLA ASSOCIATION. Two ink signatures by Malcolm Campbell on separate scraps of paper, one with a small newspaper photograph cut out and laid on, dated 22/07/1935. One framed black and white photograph showing Donald… Campbell with his CBE next to Leo Villa outside Buckingham Palace in January 1957. Six loose official black and white photographic prints showing Donald, Malcolm, and Leo, including some shots of Bluebird cars, all with official stamps. Nine further associated black and white photographs, lacking captions or stamps. Four black and white photographic 'Bluebird' postcards, all blank. One promotional flick-book celebrating Sir Malcolm Campbell's water speed record of 1937; publisher's card covers, stapled twice. One section from 'The Daily Express', Tuesday March 20, 1984, pp.13-20, including the article 'Campbell's daughter takes up the big challenge,' describing Gina's Campbell's participation in the Round Britain Powerboat Race of that year. One long-play record (33 1/3 rpm) titled 'World Water Speed Record 1956: Donald Campbell's Southward Run on Coniston Water,' with the original brown card slip. Photographs contained within a yellow envelope addressed in blue ink to Mrs. J. Villa at her home in Surrey, with a postmark of 16th August 1967. Newspaper folded twice, with rubbing, some tears and heavy browning. Photographs, postcards and signature scraps all lightly handled. Flick-book fine. Record slip split to all joints, in two pieces, with thumbing and dog-earing to edges. Envelope heavily handled but intact. Photograph frame lightly rubbed and bumped. Record somewhat scratched, producing moderate crackling, but without interrupting play. Very good overall. A archive of material relating mainly to the water speed records of Sir Malcolm and Donald Campbell between the mid 1930's and the late 1950's. Some or all of the collection seemingly belonged at one time to the family of Leo Villa (1899-1979), who served as chief mechanic for both Campbells. Signed.
