Contact seller5-star sellerFirst Everyman's Library edition, later printing of McCarthy's classic trilogy, appearing here in one volume for the first time. Octavo, original cloth. Signed by the author on the half-title page. Fine in a fine dust jacket. Jacket photograph by Mario Ettlinger. Jacket design by Barbara de Wilde. Rare and desirable signed and i…nscribed. McCarthy's award-winning and best-selling trio of novels, The Border Trilogy, constitutes a genuine American epic. The young men in these novels come of age on Southwestern ranches in the 1930's, while across the border, Mexico beckons them with its desolate beauty and the cruel promise of a place where dreams are paid for in blood. The San Francisco Chronicle calls the trilogy "An American classic to stand with the finest literary achievements of the century" and the Chicago Tribune exclaimed, "Make a place on your bookshelf. If you love classic narrative, quest stories, adventure stories of high order transformed by one of the lapidary masters of contemporary American fiction, now is your hour of triumph.".

Contact seller5-star sellerFirst edition, first printing. Winner of both the National Book Award and the National Book Critics Circle Award, All the Pretty Horses marks a turning point in McCarthy's career. It was his first real breakthrough and introduced his unique literary voice to a much broader readership. The first volume in the Border Trilogy, it c…ombines McCarthy's spare, luminous prose with a coming-of-age narrative steeped in mythic resonance and Western iconography. Its lyrical treatment of loss, exile, and the pursuit of meaning across the Mexican borderlands revitalized the American Western novel and solidified McCarthy's reputation as one of the most important literary stylists of his generation. An increasingly scarce signed copy of this breakthrough novel. Signed by McCarthy on the half-title. Fine in fine dust jacket, with tiniest crimp to jacket spine head, in mylar cover. Publisher's quarter black cloth, paper covered boards in Chip Kidd dust jacket ($21.00).

First Editions. First Printings, with The Crossing and Cities of the Plain each being the limited issue (one of 1,000 copies). Three octavo volumes (22cm); black paper and cloth-covered boards, with titling and author's initials stamped in gilt on spines and front covers; brown and red topstains; [x],302,[8]; [viii],426; [viii],…291,[7]pp. All the Pretty Horses is signed by McCarthy on the title page, with other two volumes signed on the tipped-in limitation page, as issued. First volume shows modest rubbing to backstrip, with rear board corners gently tapped (though still sharp); contents clean; Very Good+ or better in a Near Fine, unclipped dustjacket, with a faint, shallow stain along the lower rear panel. Second and third volumes show some trivial wear to jacket extremities, with some faint spotting and a tiny scuff to lower edge of textblock on Cities; Near Fine in Near Fine, unclipped dustjackets. Attractive set of McCarthy's critically acclaimed Border Trilogy his first encounter with mainstream success after writing five novels between 1965-1985. Beginning with the publication of All the Pretty Horses, for the first time in McCarthy's career, his publisher poured a considerable amount of money into marketing the novel, with pre-publication copies in five formats (including an attractive signed advance in a folding case) produced and widely-circulated. Few signings events were done for the novel, after which McCarthy, publicity shy and committed to a private life, would seldom do public events or book signings, opting to sign sheets to be tipped-in to subsequent books. All the Pretty Horses won both the National Book Award and National Book Critics Circle Award in 1992, and served as the basis for Billy Bob Thorton's 2000 adaptation starring Matt Damon and Penelope Cruz.
