Patterned paper-covered boards are a bit soiled with fading/discoloration around edges. Shelfwear to edges, especially bottom edge, with some loss, corners bumped with some fraying. Strip of paper covering has come off of front cover, is laid in for possible repair. Shelfwear to head and tail of cloth covered spine. Paper spine label is darkened and chipped. Interior age-toned, binding tight. Unidentified ink inscription on flyleaf signed "A token from the House of Knopf, 1925.".

A number of original contributions: Cather (on Katherine Mansfield), Coppard, de la Mare, Lawrence, Mencken, Nathan, Van Doren, Van Vechten, Wylie et.al, with a who's who of Borzoi writer's and a bibliography of all Knopf publications to date. In white cloth with dec. paper, book designed by Elmer Adler; and printed and bound at the Plimpton Press. The spine has darkened, the boards unevenly so, edges worn. Remains of library sticker (presumably Melcher's) on spine. Still Very Good.

Blanche Knopf, co-founder of Alfred A. Knopf, Inc., was one of the most influential figures in twentieth-century American publishing, instrumental in building Knopf's transatlantic list and bringing modern European and Latin American authors to U.S. readers. Her inscription to Walter Wanger, then newly successful with The Sheik starring Rudolph Valentino and soon to become one of Hollywood's leading producers, underscores the intersection of American publishing and cinema in the interwar years. The Borzoi 1925 is both a commemorative volume and a literary anthology. It includes original essays and appreciations by leading critics and novelists such as Willa Cather, Gertrude Stein, D. H.
