Hardcover. Condition: g+. First edition. Quarto. XI, 224, XII-XXIII, [1]pp. Uncut. Original illustrated dust-jacket over burgundy cloth, with gold lettering on spine and front cover. Front free endpaper signed by the author, as well as Temple Press managing director, Roland E. Dangerfield, and 9 other Temple Press staff members. A remarkable history of the Dangerfield printing company, founded in 1891 when Edmund Dangerfield launched "Cycling" magazine. The company grew and eventually became Temple Press, based in Bowling Green Lane, which specialized in publications centering on motoring and motor cycles. From the Dangerfield Printing Company to the Temple Press, Arthur C. Armstrong takes us on a memorable journey into the world of printing industry, and examines the milestones of progress of Temple Press during more than half a century, as well as the development of printing, photography and process engraving, and some reminiscences and aspects of specialized journalism. This volume is splendidly illustrated throughout with 50 full-page plates reproduced in b/w and color, of which a few depict some of the most memorable events in the publishing company history (the first Atlantic radioed pictures, the new building of the Temple Press, the famous "Octopus" cartoon, drawn by Inder Burns, etc.). Sporadic and moderate chipping along edges of dust-jacket. Moderate shelf wear on binding, with spine age-toned, and lower front corner bumped (thus slightly affecting pages throughout). Minor foxing on endpapers. Dust-jacket and binding in overall fair to good-, interior in good+ to very good condition.
