'From the writer' written in ink on front free endpaper. Light foxing to first and last few pages. Slight wear and light soiling to spine, cover & corners. ; E. H. W. Meyerstein was an English writer and scholar. He published two biographies, two plays, five novels and 15 books of poetry, including A Boy of Clare. Contains note from author to Gladys A. Thornton, whose 1928 work "A History of Clare" is quoted on page 15. Note reads "Dear Madam, A copy of this little book is due to you. I hope you will accept it. You will find your admirable history of Clare referred to on pg. 15, but it has helped me in many other places to reconstitute, in my own fashion, the ancient borough. I expect little or no sale; people will say- the must- that this is second-rate A. E. Housman but I know the approach is quite different. I hope, if you find time to read the [intelligible], you will let me know which lyric, if any, seems best to recapture what is for you the spirit of the place, which you must know better than most, it stands to reason. I trust this will reach you. As a matter of fact, on my last visit but one to Clare, they told me at the Bell that you had been married the day before, but I [unintelligible] to enquire your husband's surname- very [unintelligible], as you were only known to me by your literary work. Believe me. Yours faithfully, Edward H. W. Meyerstein." The book also contains newspaper clippings relating E. H. W. Meyerstein's posthumously published autobiography "Of my Early Life, 1889-1918" in 1957. Slight foxing to top edge, slight wear to spine, covers and corners. ; 8vo; 98 pages; Signed by Author.
