Ejerció de trampero y periodista, alcanzando el grado de capitan en la guerra contra México (1845). El prefacio del autor es de Noviembre de 1852 y leemos con agrado que la obra está dedicada a los jóvenes lectores de Inglaterra y América como eficaz 'antídoto contra la ignorancia, la pereza y el vicio' con el único y maravilloso objetivo de promover el amor por los libros y despertar la imaginación. Sería difícil encontrar una mejor y más clara argumentación. Algunos grabados acompañan las páginas de la obra, las cuales muestran por ciertas manchas que el libro no ha resistido impasible el paso del siglo y medio que lo separa de nosotros. Aunque el libro no lo especifica posiblemente sea una primera edición americana de esta obra. 364 páginas. Un poco fatigado pero perfectamente legible. Una rara avis.
