Dayton O. Hyde (1925-2018), a writer, rancher, conservationist, and photographer, authored two dozen books, including variants of Brand of a Boy tailored to specific western states. He also wrote the widely acclaimed book SANDY, THE TRUE STORY OF A SANDHILL CRANE WHO JOINED OUR FAMILY (1968). In later life he was renowned for his work in preserving wild mustangs. Cover artist Walter Graham (1903-2000), a Wenatchee resident for the last five decades of his life, was an accomplished western artist.
