No Binding. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Not books but a group of six, 7-inch, 45 rpm rock 'n roll records from the year 1964, the eleventh year of rock 'n roll. As usual with our groups or "lots" of 45s, these will be mostly garage-sale finds. All should grade "very good" or better, all will play well, but it should not be assumed that ANY of these 60-year-old survivors are pristine or "mint." Many will show fine scratches or scuffs from handling or storage, most labels will exhibit some "rub." But for one price you get six ORIGINAL 45 rpm records from the early 1960s, several of them a bit odd, including the Searchers' rendition of Leiber-Stoller's "Love Potion Number Nine" from their album "This Is Us", and Gerry and the Pacemakers' Number One hit "How Do You Do It" (the song George Martin tried to get the Beatles to cut as their first hit single. The four lads, though barely getting started, showed some nerve and replied the catchy little piece of bubble gum would ruin them in Liverpool. "We came back to George and said, 'Well it may be a number one, but we just don't want this kind of song, we don't want to go out with that kind of reputation. It's a different thing we're going for, it's something new.' I suppose we were quite forceful really, for people in our position," sayeth Mr. McCartney. And so the Beatles' first single was "Love Me Do." "How Do You Do It?" did hit number one for the Pacemakers, while "Love Me Do" stalled at Number 17 -- the poor Beatles would have to wait a whole three weeks for "Please Please Me" to score their first Number One. The Pacemakers -- originally "Gerry Marsden and the Mars Bars" -- would have several more hits, but disbanded in 1967.) You also get The Tams' "It's All Right (You're Just In Love)" / "You Lied to Your Daddy"; The Newbeats' "Bread and Butter"; Bobby Marchan's "That's The Way That It Goes" with "You Won't Do Right" on the flip side; and Hub Kapp and the Wheels' "Bony Maronie," featuring on the flip side their cover of the Everly Brothers' "Sigh, Cry, Almost Die." Bobby Marchan (born Oscar James Gibson, 1930-1999) was a New Orleans-based female impersonator and vocalist with Huey "Piano" Smith and the Clowns, whose "There Is Something On Your Mind" was a big R&B hit in 1960. He was the first to record "Rockin' Pneumonia" (Ace, 1957) and "Sea Cruise" (Frankie Ford reportedly admitting he copied Marchan's styling when he recorded his hit version.) As for Hub Kapp and The Wheels, the A&R types at Capitol Records kept urging them to tour in support of their records, not realizing that Hub Kapp and the Wheels pretty much didn't exist, that they were in fact a joke dreamed up by the hosts of the long-running Phoenix, Arizona, "Wallace and Ladmo" morning cartoon-and-satire live television show (1954-1989.) Hub Kapp was in fact Wallace-and-Ladmo regular Pat McMahon, who more regularly appeared as Boffo, the Clown Who Hated Children. Six singles from 1964, combined into a lot to consolidate shipping, all for less than $4 apiece! This lot now reduced from $35.

Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. In this booklet, Marion Harris Neil collected together a number of tasty recipes, all made with Blue Ribbon or Butter Krust Bread, specifically for the Fleischmann Yeast Company, who were also the publishers. The book, a handsome digest-sized, stapled paperback, has a lovely front cover color illustration featuring a pretty young woman serving up what looks to be a bread and peas concoction. Arrayed beneath her are three tasty looking baked goods. The 32 page booklet is illustrated inside with monochrome halftone photographs. The back cover, printed black on blue features a promotional ad for Blue Ribbon and Butter Krust Bread. It's a very nice bit of culinary ephemera - the cover certainly reflects the style of 1919!
