Condition: Fine. A quirky manuscript, combining drawings of actual bridges, and things related to bridges, with the discussion of 100 hypothetical bridge hands, and some other aspects of the game and playing cards. 12mo. 17 by 11.5 cm. With about 130 illustrations, almost all of them full page, and six pages with full color and illumination of ancient playing cards, all round. Not counted in the illustrations are all the colored card suits on the bridge hand layouts and the title pages. As a primer on bridge, one can find libraries full of more lucid, or user friendly, discussions. As a work on bridge building, this doesn't pretend to be an engineering or technical textbook either, but the drawings do show the wide range of styles and the beauty of the bridges depicted. As a curiosity, this manuscript is unrivaled, as it is also clearly a work of a passionate enthusiast having some fun. The drawings are well-done, and the whole production of the manuscript is neat and impressive. Quarter Morocco. Cloth on boards.
