Hardcover. Condition: Very good. First Edition. 332 p. 23 cm. Half leather with marbled paper boards and matching endpapers. Gold trim. Bumped corners and a little wear to edges. Light foxing. A satire by Thomas Chandler Haliburton (1796-1865). The title suggests Canada is a land of empty promises and inflated expectations, like bubbles that burst when exposed to reality. Haliburton sympathetically portrays the aspirations of ordinary people while providing insights into human nature. A Canadian classic.
