Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. True first British printing with original unclipped jacket (£1.50/30s). Jacket has faults - namely edge/shelf wear, creasing to front inner flap, a few very small marks, a few small patches of loss to top (picture) surface, the odd small crease/rub to edges, a little pushing/rubbing to head/tail of spine, little pushing/bumping to corners (which has resulted in tiny loss in a couple of places), a few very small (approx. 3mms) tears, patchy browning/odd small marks/spots of foxing to reverse (white side), little browning/odd spots of foxing to front/back inner flaps and is in only good condition. Boards are near fine (having been well protected by the jacket) with a hint of pushing to corners and minor pushing/rubbing to head/tail of spine. Pages are generally clean and the binding is tight. Previous owner's name, date and location in pen to front end-paper. Pages little tanned. Odd small marks/spots of foxing to page edges, tops and bottoms. Inside boards/end-papers bit tanned with the odd small mark/minor foxing. Occasional small mark/spot of foxing to pages. No other faults. All books described honestly and accurately. Paypal accepted.

Covers are unmarked and otherwise unworn. Pages are unworn and -- other than the author's inscription -- unmarked. Not a remainder. Its dust jacket, now protected by a removable mylar cover, is also in very good condition: whole, bright, and unmarked, with wear and some tiny chipping on ends of spine and flap folds, plus a 1" closed tear in the top of its front hinge. Octavo, boards. First edition. BUG JACK BARRON "is a story about politics, big business and television in the USA of the near future, and it has some tough things to say about power and corruption -- but what made it seem so innovative was that it was the first SF novel to use four-letter obscenities profusely and to describe sexual acts in explicit detail . This is a novel about living in a media landscape, and the prose is intended to convey the all-embracing, ever-changing qualities of the electronic media. Frequently over-the-top, occasionally sentimental, for the most part it works surprisingly well." - Pringle, Science Fiction: The 100 Best Novels 62. It "remains significant as an early examination of the growing media and their manipulators." - Anatomy of Wonder (1995) 4-428. The "foundation-stone of a long argument which Spinrad was to extend in such works as A WORLD BETWEEN (1979) and PICTURES AT 11 (1995)." - Fortunati and Trousson (eds), Dictionary of Literary Utopias, pp. 95-6. 1969 Nebula and 1970 Hugo nominee for best novel. Anatomy of Wonder (2004) II-1058. Sargent, British and American Utopian Literature, 1516-1985, p. 321. Survey of Science Fiction Literature I, pp. 265-71. A fine copy in fine dust jacket (priced $5.95 on the front flap) with the usual tanning, here light and largely at the edges of the rear panel. (#172839).
