Reynolds, a British journalist, was the author of three books of travel: FROM THE IVORY COAST TO THE CAMEROONS (1929), BY DESERT WAYS TO INDIAN SNOWS (1932), and AFRICAN PASSAGE (1935). Most images taken by Reynolds (with his stamp and penned…comments to verso of many pictures). Subjects encompass the totality of Tauromaquia: from the selection of the bulls and the opening processions to the spectacle of the ring. Numerous action shots, including several gorings. The images primarily show the matadors and toreadors: Maera, Joselito, Cojida, and Nino de Palma - said to be the model for Pedro Romero in THE SUN ALSO RISES. With Reynolds' concise but informative typed captions, an engaging portrait of the culture and sport of bullfighting we suspect was a intended for eventual publication. Hardcover. Oblong 4to. cloth-bound album. 25 x 36cm. 103 original photographs, most (92) approx. 3.5 x 5.5" with remaining 7 x 9.5". Almost all images accompanied by typed detailed captions. SIGNED by Reynold's to front pastedown. Covers rather rubbed and wrinkled. Else sound and internally fine. Very good overall. Signed.
