Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Colista Dowling (illustrator). 1st Edition. This is a detailed and thoroughly researched account of bison life on the Great Plains told from the viewpoint of anthropomorphized beasts. The story doesn't pull any punches when it comes to relating the dangers facing the bison herds, and ends with an account of a slaughter at the hands of white hunters before Bumpy and her herd find sanctuary in Yellowstone. In the dedication the author expresses a hope that "there will never be such reckless slaughter of wildlife" again. Nicely produced book, with the full page drawings printed in brown. There's some very light spotting to the foredges, but a fine copy in a very good dust jacket with curious specks of wear on spine and front panel (at first I thought it was part of the illustration). Front flap has been clipped and re-priced by the publisher.
