Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. First Edition ( ' First Published in 1947 ' ). Fun fact: the author of this book, Noel Langley, wrote the screenplay which formed the basis for the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz and is one of the three credited screenwriters for the film. This book was previously owned by Theodore Bikel. He signed his name on the first front end paper along with the date (July 1948). Here's just a little something from his Wikipedia profile: 'In 1959 he co-founded the Newport Folk Festival and created the role of Captain von Trapp opposite Mary Martin as Maria in the original Broadway production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's The Sound of Music. In 1969 Bikel began acting and singing on stage as Tevye in the musical Fiddler on the Roof, a role he performed more often than any other actor to date.' As you can see from the photos, the red covers are in nice condition, very clean. There is some color fade at the spine and the two front corners. There's also a small crease at the front bottom corner and the rear top corner. The edges are in very good shape. A few corners have light rubbing. The book is solidly bound from cover to cover. There are no binding issues. The blank rear end papers, the half-title page, and the last page of the book have a little bit of foxing as well. However the rest of the book is free of foxing, and the pages are exceptionally clean. I saw only a few small spots of soiling over the entirety of the book. The pages are also in very good shape. I didn't see any conspicuous creasing, no turned-down corners. There are no markings. No attachments of any kind. And with the exception of Mr. Bikel's signature, no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book.
