[PRIMERA EDICION de la imprenta Elzeviriana del siglo XVII ?].- Lugduni Batavorum [Leiden]: Ex officina Elzeviriana, Anno 1635.- [4 h.], 526 p., [17 h.]: Portada in frontis grabada al cobre, retrato de César en medallón al verso de la 4ª hoja, siguen 5 grabados en madera a plena página y 3 mapas plegados grabados al cobre en diferentes paginaciones fuera de texto (Galia, p. 17 - Imperio Romano, p. 399 - Hispania, p. 451); 12º (13 x 7,8 cm); Cuidada impresión de bella factura; Signaturas: 4, A-Z 12, Aa 4; Enc. antigua (fines del siglo XVII o principios del XVIII) en Plena Piel marroquén, lomo dorado, con 2 tejuelos, tapas con filete dorado recuadrando, cantos con filete dorado y contracantos con rueda dorada, cortes dorados.- NOTAS: Incluye (pags. 197-224) Libro VIII de "La Guerra de las Galias", por Aulus Hirtius; del mismo autor (pags. 355-398) "La Guerra de Alejandría", seguida de "La Guerra Africana" (pags. 398-449) y de "La Guerra Hispánica" (pags. 450-473). La atribución a A. Hirtius (a veces también a Gaius Oppius) de estos dos textos es dudosa. Referencia: Willems, nota 420. También incluye un "Nomenclator Geographicus" Omnium Germaniae, Galliae, & Britaniae locorum, quorum apud Caesarem sit mentio .[por] Abrahami Ortelii (pags. 507 a 526). Y un "Index Rerum et Verborum Memorabilium, Quae in Commentariis Caesaris habentur" (contenido en las últimas 17 hojas que van sin numerar) seguido de una pequeña nota de erratas al pie, "Errata fic emendentur", que las otras ediciones de la misma fecha no tienen. DEFECTOS: La encuadernación tiene pequeñas rozaduras en las esquinas y en las juntas del lomo, la portada sin un mínimo trocito de papel en la esquina superior externa, y el mapa del Imperio Romano tiene una pequeña restauración en un pliegue de su parte superior. Por lo demás es un ejemplar en muy buen estado. La considerada como primera edición de esta obra, con una impresión más fina que la segunda, se reconoce porque las páginas 149, 335 y 475 están numeradas como 153, 345 y 375 por error. Ambas tienen la misma caja de texto y número de páginas. Sin embargo, la edición que nosotros ofrecemos, de la misma fecha (1635) y con idéntica portada grabada, nos parece muy rara, no siendo ninguna de las dos anteriormente mencionadas (más comunes en el mercado). Ante todo, tiene una caja de texto distinta, fuentes tipográficas más pequeñas y por consiguiente menos páginas, junto con variaciones en algunas orlas capitulares. Además, como ya se ha indicado, contiene una fe de erratas al pie de la última hoja, que según hemos podido comprobar no existe en las otras ediciones, donde las erratas ya están corregidas. Esto me hace pensar que nuestro libro es inusual, formando parte de una tirada incluso previa a la que se considera primera, aunque no podemos asegurarlo. MUY RARO. Externally, a little worn. Vellum is discoloured, as is common with this binding. Ink note to backstrip. Book has a slight lean and boards have sprung a little. Front free endpaper is disbound, and the following blank is torn, with evidence of previous repair work. Internally, generally firmly bound. Gathering of p29 is disbound, with a few other gatherings strained. Pages are generally bright, with a few light marks and a light tide mark, mainly to the first half of the work. A few spots to plates. Lacking two plates. An area of loss to the 2nd leaf of the index, with most of the 3rd Index leaf also lacking. A few pages are creased. The odd pencil annotation throughout.
