Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. Signed. 260 pages. Published in 2018. The author's ninth collection of essays and short stories. His most mature achievement. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now scarce. The big, bold, black "Autographed Copy" sticker pasted in front is the most dazzling such sticker we have ever seen. Presents David Sedaris' "Calypso". The dependable humorist become poignant memoirist. "When he buys a beach house on the Carolina coast, Sedaris envisions long, relaxing vacations spent playing board games and lounging in the sun with those he loves most. And life at the Sea Section, as he names the vacation home, is exactly as idyllic as he imagined, except for one tiny, vexing realization: It's impossible to take a vacation from yourself. Sets his formidable powers of observation toward middle age and mortality. Make no mistake: These stories are very, very funny. But much of the comedy is born out of the vertiginous moment when your own body betrays you, and you realize that the story of your life is made up of more past than future" (Publisher's blurb). An absolute "must-have" title for David Sedaris collectors. This Autographed Copy is very prominently, neatly, and beautifully signed and inscribed in black pen-marker on the title page by the author: "To Tina, 'C' [for Calypso, with matching black underline, just like on the DJ Cover] , David Sedaris". It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. The inscription is, in effect, an abbreviated version of the DJ Cover design. The recipient, who is named, obtained the signature in person. This title is a great collection. As far as we know, this is the only such "C"-signed and inscribed copy of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. It is one of the nicest signed copies we have ever seen. Please note: Copies available online have very serious flaws (because they were read) or are in multiple subsequent printings. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare signed copy thus. One of the most brilliant American writers of our time. A fine copy.
